FARGO, North Dakota – Riley Karwowski of Pennsylvania earned Outstanding Wrestler honors in the 16U Girls division on the final day of the 2026 U.S. Marine Corps Junior Nationals at the FARGODOME.
After placing second at last year’s event, Karwowski reached the top step of the podium on Saturday after she pinned Audrey Cunningham of Texas at the 1:28 mark in the match at 110 pounds. Throughout the tournament, Karwowski notched three pins and a pair of 10-0 technical falls to earn OW accolades.
Entering the day with no champions in state history in the 16U Girls division, Kansas had three champions to lead the tournament. Gray Joyce became the first champion in start history at 145 pounds. Joyce fell short of becoming the first champion for Kansas in 2025 after finishing as runner-up, but she secured a 6-4 win over Oregon’s Audrey Robinson to win the title.
Two bouts after Joyce, Siobhan Flanner (170) captured a 13-4 win over Alexis Penley of Illinois after scoring a four-point move in the final minute of the match to break a 4-4 tie and put the match away. The following match featured Kaylee Thompson claiming Kansas’ third and final national champion of the night after pinning Pennsylvania’s Ashley Hoffman at 190 pounds.
Kesi Tsarni of Maryland was the only other wrestler to win by fall in the championship round after pinning Ki'Morah Cathey of Oklahoma just after the start of the second period at 140 pounds.
Oklahoma was the only other state with multiple champions on Saturday afternoon. At 120 pounds, McKenna Wilson recorded a four-point move as time was expiring to flip a 6-4 deficit into an 8-6 win over Elle Changaris of New Jersey. Rachel Garcia was the second Oklahoma title winner of the day with a tight 4-1 decision over Anastasia Rodnikova of Illinois at 130 pounds.
Brooklyn Murray of Massachusetts became just the second finalist in state history on Saturday morning. Then in the final session of Fargo, she became Massachusetts’ first champion after upending 2026 U17 World Team member Sophia Valdez of Colorado in a 7-6 decision.
The championship finals featured a pair of technical falls from Bella Manno of Arizona and Winter West of Washington. At 105 pounds, Manno rolled to a 10-0 victory against Indiana’s Ella Neibert, and West won 11-0 against Presley Beard of Kansas.
Ƿɲ’s Abigail Peterson started the day in the semifinals of both the 16U and Junior divisions, looking to win a pair of Fargo titles. After her bid for two championships came up short with a third-place finish in the Junior division, she bounced back to win the 16U title. In the 100-pound championship, Peterson shutout fellow 2026 U17 Pan American medalist Olivia Hernandez of Oregon in a 6-0 battle.
Rounding out the 16U national champions on Saturday were Kaylee Vera of Ohio (115), Rain Scott of Illinois (135), Ava Guilmette of New York (155), Lyla Hensen of Michigan (207) and Taya Maumausolo Matagi of California (235).
Pennsylvania captured the 16U Girls team title with 172 points, followed by Oklahoma with 113. With three champions on Saturday, Kansas placed third for its best finish in state history. Kansas’ previous best finish was 10th in 2025. Illinois (105) and California (104) rounded out the top five.
