Salah Tsarni celebrates semifinal victory at the 2026 U17 World Championships in Baku, Azerbaijan
The 2026 U17 World Championships come to a close today. Team USA has three wrestlers still alive. Camryn Howard starts the day off in the repechage at 71 kg. Howard needs two wins to enter the medal rounds. The repechage starts at 4:30 p.m. local time/8:30 a.m. ET. Rylen Wax and Salah Tsarni are both in gold medal matches at 45 kg and 92 kg, respectively. The medal rounds begin at 6 p.m. local/10 a.m. ET.

Session Two Match Notes
92 kg Gold – Abdurazak Shabanov (Russia) dec. Salah Tsarni (United States), 9-4
Shabanov put on the clock with 3:00 left in the match. Activity clock expires, and Tsarni takes a 1-0 lead. After a scramble on the edge of the mat, Tsarni dives low and scores two more to take a 3-0 lead into the break. Shabanov got on the board with 1:38 left after pushing out Tsarni. Shabanov snapped down Tsarni and took him to the mat to and worked a go-behind. He put Tsarni into danger. To go up, 7-3. Tsarni scored a reversal to come within three. However, another stepout and fleeing made the final score 9-4.
45 kg Gold – Nelson Villafane III (Puerto Rico) dec. Rylen Wax (United States), 7-1
Wax goes on the activity clock at 3:02. Villafane III scores first after forcing Wax out of the circle. The lead doubled two with the shot clock expiring on Wax. The 2-0 lead for Villafane III held at the break. Villafane III goes on the shot with 1:07 left in the match. Villafane takes a 4-0 lead after taking down Wax with a double leg on the edge of the mat. Another stepout gave Villafane III a 5-0 lead. Wax scored a point after forcing out Villafane III, but a second takedown from Villafane III as time expired made the final score 7-1.
Session One Match Notes
71 kg Repechage – Adilet Rysbay (Kazakhstan) dec. Camryn Howard (United States), 11-2
Howard put on activity clock at 3:18. Rysbay takes a 1-0 lead at 2:48 with the shot clock expiring on Howard. Rysbay’s 1-0 lead held at the break. Rysbay worked a knee pull to put Howard on his back for four. Rysbay then scored two turns off a leg lace, taking a 9-0 lead. Howard made it 9-2 on a go-behind, and the match went neutral with 13 seconds to go. Rysbay tallied one more takedown to win the bout, 11-2.
71 kg Repechage – Camryn Howard (United States) dec. Jaloliddin Djalalov (Uzbekistan), 5-2
Djalalov forced Howard into the danger zone in search of an early stepout, but Howard circled back to keep the match scoreless. Djalalov found the force to grab the early 1-0 lead and then went up 2-0 after Howard’s activity clock expired at 2:38. The 2-0 lead for Djalalov held at the break. Howard put four on the board with a double leg shot that allowed him to lift Djalalov and send him to his back on the edge of the mat. Following an Uzbekistan challenge that was lost, Howard went ahead 5-2 with 1:22 left in the match. Howard stayed strong on defense and maintained the 5-2 lead for the victory.
