BAKU, Azerbaijan – Bruno Pallone continued his strong performance on the opening day of the 2026 U17 World Championships and pinned his way into the gold medal match at 110 kg.

In the final match of day one at the National Gymnastics Arena, Pallone kept his run of big moves and bonus victories going in the semifinals. After falling behind early, he flipped an early 1-0 deficit against Andrej Simic of Serbia with a six-point sequence. Pallone was pushed into the danger zone, and he scored four points after sending Simic to his back. He picked up two more points on the move, with Simic being tagged with a foul for grabbing Pallone’s singlet.

Holding a 6-1 advantage, Pallone tried to put the match away with another four-point maneuver, but after review, Simic picked up the four points and made it a one-point contest. On the ensuing restart, Pallone got back on the offensive with another takedown followed by back-to-back turns, and he converted the last tilt into a pin with 56 seconds left in the match.

The gold-medal match at 110 kg features Pallone taking on Tymofii Prykhodko of Ukraine. Prykhodko placed ninth at the 2024 U17 World Championships.

The second session on Monday also featured three members of Team USA being pulled into tomorrow’s repechage round. After suffering losses in the morning session, Arav Pandey, Corey Brown and Ivan Ivanov all saw individuals who beat them in the morning move into the gold medal matches at their respective weight classes.

At 48 kg, Pandey takes on Giorgi Chkhikvadze of Georgia, with the winner moving into the bronze medal match. Brown and Ivanov both need to win two repechage matches to compete for bronze. Brown’s first match is against Lavozier Wadik Marubo of Brazil at 55 kg. Ivanov takes on Nurluutan Kubatov of Kyrgyzstan at 80 kg.

Day two of the U17 World Championships starts at 10:30 a.m. local time/2:30 a.m. ET with repechage matches for Greco-Roman group one. Greco-Roman group two (45-51-60-65-71-92 kg) gets underway during the early session and will wrestle through the quarterfinals, followed by semifinals at 5 p.m. local time/9 a.m. ET. Medal rounds for Greco-Roman group one are scheduled for 6 p.m. local time/10 a.m. ET.
