BAKU, Azerbaijan – After dropping his opening match on Monday, Ivan Ivanov came back with a vengeance on Tuesday to bonus his way into the bronze medal match at the 2026 U17 World Championships.

Both of Ivanov’s repechage matches ended in the first period. In his first match of the day against Nurluutan Kubatov of Kyrgyzstan, Ivanov scored first off passivity, then immediately turned Kubatov to grab a 3-0 lead. Ivanov put the match away with a four-point throw from a headlock, followed by an exposure to secure the 9-0 technical fall.

Needing just one more win to compete for a medal tonight, Ivanov fell behind early against Ilias Gadaboeshev of Russia. Despite trailing by four early in the match, Ivanov went back to the headlock and scored another four-point throw from a front headlock. Maintaining the headlock on the ground, Ivanov turned Gadaboeshev three times before sticking the pin with 2:10 left in the match.

Ivanov now moves into the bronze medal match against defending U17 World champion Abdulaziz Kholmirzaev of Uzbekistan.

Arav Pandey and Corey Brown were also fighting for spots in the medal matches tonight but came up just short. Brown pinned four-time age-group Pan American medalist Lavozier Wadik Marubo of Brazil in his first repechage match but dropped a narrow 3-1 decision to two-time U15 Balkans champion Vlad Trip of Romania in the second repechage bout at 55 kg. At 48 kg, Pandey tried to fight back from a six-point deficit but suffered a 6-3 defeat to Giorgi Chkhikvadze of Georgia.
